Building on the momentum of the first-ever WHO kidney health resolution adopted earlier this year, the ISN is launching an implementation strategy that aims toward translating global commitments into practical measures at the national level.
ISN President Marcello Tonelli stated, “The ISN will lead dialogue and provide resources and expertise to support countries in implementing the WHO resolution within the realities of their health systems. This will include consultations and studies to assess country readiness, as well as collaboration with partners to share best practices.”
Aligned with the ISN Manifesto, the implementation strategy includes a workshop at WCN'26, in which expert groups will work on selected countries to explore practical approaches to implementation. This initial year-long phase will culminate in a Global Implementation Summit on the WHO kidney resolution at WCN'27 in Dubai, providing a high-level platform to review progress and reinforce collective action.
This phased approach will develop a “Global Kidney Compact,” drawing on national pilot experiences to create adaptable tools and resources for regional use. It also envisions targeted training programs to strengthen the role of health professionals as national advocates for kidney health policies.
